The Independent Review Officer is an independent statutory office that was established on 1 March 2021 under the Personal Injury Commission Act 2020 (NSW).
Simon Cohen is the current Independent Review Officer and he is supported by an expert team - the Office of the Independent Review Office (IRO).
IRO's statutory functions include:
- finding solutions for persons injured at work or in motor vehicle accidents who have complaints about their insurer;
- managing and administering the Independent Legal Assistance and Review Service (ILARS); and
- conducting inquiries into matters arising in connection with the operation of the Personal Injury Commission Act 2020 and the workers’ compensation and motor vehicle accident schemes.
